How We Started

The C-STEMP Construction Skills Training and Empowerment Project Ltd/Gtee, was conceived and established by a real estate development firm, J. Hausen Ltd., under the auspices of the Real Estate Developers Association (REDAN). The project was conceived as a result of their experience and the observed experience of other developers and building contractors, of severe shortage of skilled manpower constraining their operations.

Spurred by the Construction Ideas Fund (CIF) initiated by GEMS 2 and supported by the Department For International Development (DFID), C-STEmp has a key object to break the paradox of high unemployment and poverty in the midst of severe shortage of skilled manpower in the construction sector, development of industry driven curriculum and training model that can be replicated across the country to boost the supply of competent artisans and craftsmen in order to improve the standard of construction and productivity in the sector. Its medium term objective is to spawn a network of training providers that can complement it to build up a critical mass of up to one million trained, assessed and certified artisans who would be duly registered in a database to be maintained by the relevant sector skills council.[/expander_maker]

The Journey Thus Far

Our standardized technology enabled training methodology ensures quality with scale.

Our Training Model

The C-STEMP training program, is a fast-track program designed to meet the skills/up-skilling need of artisans and craftsmen within the shortest possible time frame. Our training model involves the use of multimedia technology specially designed for the program, interactive sessions and role plays, practice of operations as per exercises defined in the trainers guide (in the field or operations site), and On The Job Training.[expander_maker id=”1″ more=”.. This ensures uniform standards across the board and makes it possible to fast track the training process to turn out competent artisans within a few months rather than the two to three years under the traditional apprenticeship model which in any case has almost disappeared in the Nigerian construction industry.[/expander_maker]

Our training model is a complete value chain from sensitization to job placement.

Collaboration With Other Employers & Stakeholders

In line with its value chain proposition, which is designed to link the recruitment, selection and training directly to job placement, C-STEMP is in active collaboration with the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN), the federation of construction industry (FOCI), as well as the National Union of Construction and Civil Engineering Workers (NUCCEW) and other stakeholders. This is to ensure that training is not only geared to the needs of the employers, but also industry wide acceptability of the certification offered.
